Allegan Area Profile

Founded in 1838 as a village and incorporated as a city in 1907,  the City of Allegan is located 30 minutes from Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and the Lake Michigan Shoreline.  Allegan is home to just over 5,000 people who have found the benefits of living in a small town within a short drive of big town amenities.  Here, you will find a city comprised of varying tight knit residential neighborhoods and an intact traditional downtown that embraces its history while simultaneously welcoming new people and ideas. 

The City of Allegan is a full service city, with its own hospital, 24 hour police, fire, and emergency service coverage, and its own state of the art drinking water plant and water resource recovery plant.

In regards to education, the City is home to Allegan Public Schools, a school system committed to excellence both in and out of the classroom and part of the larger Allegan Area Educational Service Agency that offers education programs from Early Childhood to the Technical Education Center and even has a connection with Lake Michigan College

The community prides itself on its connection with the surrounding natural environment and is a place where one can enjoy all four seasons outdoors.
