Planning  & Zoning

The Planning Commission oversees development in the city, both by reviewing site plans and developing a master plan to direct and advise future development in the city.  The master plan is designed to encourage the healthy growth of Allegan without sacrificing those cultural and historical bastions held dear by the community. The City of Allegan Planning Commission conducts its regular meeting on the 3rd Monday of each month in the Council Chamber at Allegan City Hall, 231 Trowbridge Street, Allegan, MI 49010.  Copies of agendas and meeting minutes can be found here.

Zoning is the language of the physical city. It aims to promote an orderly pattern of development and to separate incompatible land uses, such as industrial uses and homes, to ensure a pleasant environment. The Zoning Ordinance is a legal instrument to regulate and establish limits on the use of land and building size, shape, height, and setback. This Ordinance, in concert with the boards and commissions regulating the zoning of Allegan, work together to ensure harmony and positive growth in the City of Allegan.  Copies of agendas and meeting minutes can be found here.
