Notice for Filing Petitions for City Offices

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that nominating petitions will be received at the office of the City Clerk, 112 Locust Street Allegan, MI until the deadline of 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2019, for the following offices:

Five Council Members:
Four(4) four-year terms expiring in 2023
One(1) two-year term to fill an umpired term until 2021

One Constable, for a two(2) year term expiring in 2021

Each person looking to run for office must be a duly registered elector in the City and shall have been a resident of the City for six(6) months immediately prior to the election at which he or she is a candidate for office.

The candidates for elective offices shall be nominated by petitions. The petitions require not less than fifty(50) nor more than seventy-five(75) registered electors of the City. No person shall sign his/her name to a greater number of petitions for any one office than there are candidates to be elected to said office.

Nominating petitions forms and supplemental information can be obtained from the City Clerk's Office, City Hall, 112 Locust St Allegan, MI during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Official blank petitions as required by State Law are available and furnished by the City Clerk. All persons filing petitions must immediately file a campaign statement at the Office of the County Clerk, at the Courthouse per Michigan's Campaign Finance Act, P.A 388 of 1976.

Completed petitions, including the required number of valid signatures, must be submitted to the City Clerk's office by 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2019.
