These, and many more changes are coming soon to Downtown Allegan! #PositivelyAllegan
The City of Allegan's construction project is well underway! The final phase of the Riverfront Park will be named the Perrigo Riverfront Plaza, in recognition of the Perrigo Company's long history of giving back to the Allegan community, as well as a $130,000 donation to help complete what will be the heart of the Riverfront project. The completed Riverfront Park will include, in all, the Veteran's Memorial Park, the Perrigo Riverfront Plaza complete with a 100-person splashpad and 20-foot long fireplace, and the Riverfront Stage. Completion is expected in November 2018.
The new sign for Schaendorf Brewing Co. anticipates a late September opening, but expect developments from Schaendorf Cattle Co. for months to come as they continue to expand their exciting business offerings at the block on Water Street.
Construction continues at Lumberman Lofts. Upon completion, this building, formerly home to a J.C. Penney, will house seven 1 and 2 bedroom loft apartments and four retail spaces on the ground floor.
Skilled laborers work diligently replacing deteriorating bricks along the Riverfront boardwalk with smooth concrete for a more accessible Riverfront.
A sneak peak at the interior remodeling being done at the new location of The Sassy Olive, set to reopen this month after their move to the former Springrove Variety/R.B. Huff's building on Locust Street. Increasing from a workspace of 2,500 square feet to 12,000 square feet will allow for expanded retail options for the Allegan-grown headband business.
Interior work on the building located at 136 Brady Street continues, as evidenced by the scaffolding seen through the window. When completed, this space will contain five retail spaces, and four 1 and 2 bedroom apartments.
Some changes are not yet visible. In 2019, The City of Allegan City Hall will relocate from its current location on Locust Street (there since the 1970s) to its new home at 231 Trowbridge Street. This building, where the Sackett Furniture building once stood, will undergo a major interior and exterior facelift and house all municipal meetings and administrative activities under one roof. The current City Hall will be put up for sale.
Construction has started on the exterior of the Riverfront facing side of 217 Hubbard Street. The building will house an exciting addition to Downtown, including an outdoor seating deck overlooking the Riverfront.
The hotly anticipated completion of the Allegan District Library expansion project in early 2019 inches closer. From this view, what will be the large windows overlooking the Kalamazoo River can be seen prominently.
