| Cabaret |
The Cabaret Band Show opens at the Griswold Auditorium this Friday. Opportunities for an evening of outstanding entertainment are March 19, 20, 26, and 27. The show starts at 8 p.m. and features 38 songs, including its signature original commercials. Proceeds from the evening benefit Wings of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Inc. in Allegan.
This year's show will have two acts with an intermission. Interspersed throughout the show will be commercials that put original lyrics to familiar tunes, singing praise to local sponsors. The Lions Club will operate the beer and wine cash bar and will again donate part of their proceeds to Wings of Hope as well.
There is something for everyone. "We play all kinds of music-country, blues, even some funk. And it all goes toward [paying for] pain management for Wings of Hope," Co-Director Dean Michaels said.
The hospice organization is a local nonprofit that provides free care to individuals facing terminal illness. Its services include in-home care, medication to manage pain and grief counseling. Later this year, it hopes to open a live-in facility to provide services for several patients.
Michaels said the show will again include a pre-show reception both Saturday nights beginning at 6:30 p.m. Reserve seating is available for the main floor at $20--$25 a ticket, which includes admission to the pre-show. General admission balcony tickets cost $15--$20 a ticket and include admission to the pre-show.
Reserved tickets may be purchased by calling Wings of Hope Hospice at (269) 686-8659. General admission tickets are on sale at Something Sweet and at the Griswold; call (269) 673-3456.
You can also become a fan of the Facebook page "Cabaret Band Show" to get updates on the show and see pictures from previous years' rehearsals. |

| Downtown Deli Art Expo |
The Downtown Bakery & Deli will host the Spring Art Expo for the Month of April. This is the perfect way to welcome Spring. Each artist will choose a charity to support and will split the earnings 50/50 with the charity. Many artists choose to donate the entire amount to their charity. Nearly $300.00 was raised in 2009. The walls and shelves at the Deli will showcase the submitted artwork for the public to admire and vote on with their pocket change to make a change in an artist and a charity.
The show consists of many artistic mediums. For all artists interested in submitting works of art, please pick up an entry form at the Downtown Bakery & Deli at 116 Locust Street, Allegan, MI 49010. Two awards will be presented. Best of Show will be chosen by a panel of judges from the Allegan Area Arts Council. The People's Choice Award comes into play with the voting/donation canisters. This award is given to the top fund raiser for their charity. The awards will be given at an Open House presentation at the Downtown Bakery & Deli on April 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. It is with great appreciation to the Downtown Development Authority that we are able to offer two $50.00 prize awards this year.
