| Ninety Nines Make Their Mark | |
On May 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Michigan Chapter of Ninety-Nines will be painting an 80 foot compass and airport identifier at the Allegan City Airport located at 740 Grand Street. The rain alternative date is May 22.
The Ninety-Nines are a women's pilot organization founded by Amelia Earhart. Airmarking has been the noble ambition of the Ninety-Nines since the early part of the 20th century, carrying on the tradition and fulfilling the need for airmarking by volunteering their time to paint the airport names, compass rose symbols, and other indentifications on airports. Some of the letters in the airport name can be 50 feet tall! The mission of the Ninety-Nines is promoting world fellowship through flight, providing networking and scholarships for women and aviation education in the community, and preserving the unique history of women in aviation. 15-20 members are expected to fly and drive in for the day to complete the project. For more information, contact Vickie Heckman at the Allegan Airport - 269.673.4157 |

| Studio Group Fitness | | Submitted by Richmond Creative
The Studio Group Fitness is now open and located at 856 Marshall Street, Allegan: an enterprise encouraging men and women of all ages to explore the delight of exercise through unique classes such as Zumba Fitness, Yoga, Karate, Marshall Arts, and Self-Defense.
Zumba Fitness is a dance fitness program which combines Latin and international music with dance in an effort to make exercise fun. The trademark phrase, "Ditch the workout, join the party!" represents the inspiration behind owners Heather Kruithoff and Kirsten Fisk's decision to open the The Studio. After discovering the countless benefits and personal satisfaction of exercise, achieving physical fitness and good health, it is Kruithoff and Fish's desire to help bring this joy to others through their business.
"Kristen and I are both from Allegan, and we met each other in class when we realized we were driving 45 minutes, one way, three times a week to attend Zumba in Byron Center," said Heather Kruithoff, co-owner of The Studio Group Fitness. "We love Zumba and had great results from class. In the past, we'd both tried workout regimes that we dreaded, but Zumba is so much fun. We started carpooling and chatting and thinking, why don't we open our own studio right here in Allegan? Couldn't Allegan use something like this?"
And so, they've done it. By combining the pursuit of a fun workout and their adventurous spirits, both women have become certified Zumba Fitness instructors, and The Studio Group Fitness will begin enrolling students in a variety of classes and sessions this month.

| Art in the Garden THANK YOU! | |
The board of directors and members of the Allegan Area Arts Council would like to thank the many hands that made our Art in the Garden fundraiser on April 17 a huge success. Event Coordinator Jude Hardin worked tirelessly to bring this day-long event to the community. She was gratified, as we all were, to hear from several business owners that the affair brought a large number of shoppers into Allegan's beautiful historic downtown. How blessed we all are to have a facility like the Griswold Auditorium in Allegan's central business district. The city staff there put in many hours on behalf of this event and deserves a standing ovation.
Our wonderful sponsors, Jere Hinman, Boskage Commerce Publications, Dawsons Renovations, Reflexions Plus and Village Market, and all the area businesses and artists, especially potter Dawn Soltysiad and metal artish Jay Prosch-Jensen, who donated items made Art in the Garden a financial triumph. The many, many volunteers who donated time and talents made that triumph heart warming. We are grateful, too, for all who attended and purchased items from artists' booths and garden vendors, participated in our raffle, enjoyed a bite from the bake sale or made a bid in the silent auction. Your contributions made it a very successful day for all of us programming to Allegan County in the future. |
