| We Have a Winner...Only One Allegan! |
The "Only One Allegan" marketing campaign was recently awarded the Michigan Municipal League Region 2 Community Excellence Award. The League recognizes innovative solutions through the peer-nominated Community Excellence Award, a spirited competition they affectionately call "The Race for the Cup." This recognition enters the project as one of the seven regional finalists to go on to represent its community in the final round at the League's Annual Convention, where votes from every Convention attendee are counted and the winner is announced at the MML Annual Convention's final event, which will be hosted in Kalamazoo from September 22 through 25. You can view the Only One Allegan videos at www.onlyoneallegan.com or show your Allegan support by adding your favorite "Only One Allegan" video to your Facebook or Myspace page through Youtube, (key words: "Only One Allegan"). | |

| Hanson Park - Now Open for Play! |
|
Installers braved rain and wind to complete the Hanson Park project this week. The new design was selected with input from Allegan elementary students with the guidance of the Allegan Parks Commission. If the enthusiastic children enjoying the park since Friday afternoon are any indication, it is a BIG HIT!

| Autism Awareness |
In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, the Regent Theatre is teaming up with the autism consultants from Allegan Area Education Service Agency (AAESA) to bring families affected by autism and other disabilities a special opportunity to enjoy Madagascar 2 in a safe and accepting environment at 11:00 a.m. on April 25. The Regent Theatre is located at 211 Trowbridge Street in downtown Allegan.
The program will provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for this unique audience; the movie theatre will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, and previews or advertisements will not be shown before the movie. Additionally, audience members are welcome to get up and dance, walk, talk or sing.
The cost of the movie is $3.00 per person which will include popcorn and a drink. If you have questions or are seeking information regarding autism, the consultants will be sharing their knowledge with informational handouts in the lobby. |
| Bridge Work Continues |
W ork is expected to continue on the deep overlay on the M-222 Bridge over the Kalamazoo River northeast of Allegan city. The project is slated for completion by the end of May. The temporary traffic light will be keeping one lane of traffic open through the construction period. River Street at M222 will be barricaded during construction; detour routes for River Street access will be set up. In addition to needed repair, the bridge will also have 4 street lights installed as are located on the M89 Bridge and the Riverfront Plaza Boardwalks.
The M89 Bridge will also continue, with anticipated completion at the end of June. Two lanes of traffic will be open throughout the duration of the project with lane shifts as the work progresses. |
